SUPPORTING SERVICE CONTROL STAFF IN THE 'VULNERABLE' CATEGORY
London Underground has gone from being accommodating and understanding to staff listed as vulnerable by the Government to pressurising and trying to force them to come into work.
This is against Government advice and wrong!

- chronic kidney disease
- chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis

ANYONE IN THE VULNERABLE CATEGORY
IF ANY OF THE ABOVE APPLY TO YOU DO NOT PUT YOURSELF AT RISK AND STAY IN A SAFE PLACE WHERE SOCIAL DISTANCING IS REALISTIC AND ACHIEVABLE
SOCIAL DISTANCING
Social distancing measures are steps you can take to reduce social interaction between people. This will help reduce the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).
They are to:
- Avoid contact with someone who is displaying symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19). These symptoms include high temperature and/or new and continuous cough
- Avoid non-essential use of public transport when possible
- Work from home, where possible. Your employer should support you to do this. Please refer to employer guidance for more information
- Avoid large and small gatherings in public spaces, noting that pubs, restaurants, leisure centres and similar venues are currently shut as infections spread easily in closed spaces where people gather together.
- Avoid gatherings with friends and family. Keep in touch using remote technology such as phone, internet, and social media
- Use telephone or online services to contact your GP or other essential service
*3. Work from home, where possible. Your employer should support you to do this.
RMT SERVICE CONTROL BELIEVE LU SHOULD SUPPORT YOU WORKING FROM HOME, WHETHER YOU ARE IN SERVICE CONTROL OR NOT. JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE IN SERVICE CONTROL IT ISN'T FAIR TO EXPECT YOU TO UNDERGO EXTRA RISK IN THE CONTROL ROOM ENVIRONMENT SURROUNDED BY OTHERS WHERE YOU CAN'T PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING.

*5. Avoid gatherings with friends and family.
RMT SERVICE CONTROL BELIEVE THIS TO BE IN-PRACTICAL AND IMPOSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE IN THE CONTROL ROOM ENVIRONMENT, WHERE YOU ARE SURROUNDED BY MULTIPLE PEOPLE ALL DAY AND CAN'T CONTROL THEIR DISTANCE. AS PART OF YOUR JOB YOU REQUIRE FACE TO FACE TO CONTACT WITH COLLEAGUES SO SOCIAL DISTANCING IS NOT ACHIEVABLE FOR SERVICE CONTROL STAFF.

Handwashing and respiratory hygiene
There are general principles you can follow to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:
- washing your hands more often – with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitiser when you get home or into work, when you blow your nose, sneeze or cough, eat or handle food
- avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
- avoid close contact with people who have symptoms
- cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin and wash your hands
- clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces in the home
*use a hand sanitiser when you get home or into work

WHAT IF MY MANAGER TELLS ME TO COME BACK TO WORK?
Ask them the following:
- Can you 100% guarantee my safety from contracting Covid-19 at work?
- Do you know what will happen to my health as a vulnerable person if I contract Covid-19 at work?
- Can you 100% guarantee or stop anyone else coming near me in the workplace and place a structure around my work environment to keep me safe?
- Can you 100% guarantee I will be over 2 metres from anyone in communal spaces such as toilets, corridors or mess rooms?
- Will my workplace and all equipment be fully disinfected before I enter it?
If they can't give you written assurance for all of these questions then don't risk it!
